Make sure to stop by the Old Cedar Stump for a glimpse into the land’s logging past and a fun photo opportunity for the kids. Located in the Mill District near the crest of the Gnome Trail, the massive stump is hard to miss.
Visitors can still see the large notches carved into the outer perimeter, marking where loggers once placed planks to stand on as they used two-person saws to painstakingly fell each tree.
Today, a protective roof shelters the Old Cedar Stump from the elements, preserving one of the few remaining remnants of the old-growth forest that once covered the coast. Take a closer look in and around the stump to discover a small but meaningful connection to the area’s history.
