Meet our VIP Winemaker Victor Palencia of Palencia Wine Company!

Victor grew up in Prosser WA, home of the Mustangs. At a very young age, he was exposed to the vineyard life, dabbling in all aspects of vineyard development and maintenance by following his father’s footsteps. In the Summer of 2000, he was introduced into the wine world working at a nearby Willow Crest winery. After Graduating from high school in 2003, Victor enrolled in Walla Walla Enology & Viticulture Program Graduating in 2005. That same year in Oct 2005, the New York Times featured Victor as the youngest winemaker in America. After a few years working at Willow Crest winery, Victor accepted a role in 2008 working for Jones and Shaw Families. Under his direction, J&S Crushing LLC was formed and became one of Washington’s largest custom crush operations, with peak production reaching over 24,000 tons per year. While serving as the Director of Winemaking for J&S Crushing, during his free time in 2012 he founded Palencia Wine Company in Walla Walla with Palencia Winery and Monarcha Winery brands. In 2015, Palencia Wine Company was recognized as a ‘Washington winery to watch’ by Wine Press Northwest. 2016 Wine Enthusiasts named Victor Palencia, age 31 among America’s Top 40 under 40, and in 2019, Wine press Northwest Magazine named Palencia Wine Company “Pacific Northwest Winery of the year.” Victor further added to his prestigious resume, winning one of the coveted “Fantastic Four Washington Winemakers of the Year” awards in 2023 from Seattle Wine Awards for his contributions to the state industry. Victor today continues to share his passion for wine while keeping an open mind to new ideas with our ever-changing landscape. His entrepreneurial spirit along with his creative ability to think outside the box has led to fun and innovative ways to produce and market wines for both him and his winery clients. Victor currently lives in Richland, WA, enjoys bike rides along Columbia Park, carne asada with the family, and dreaming about our industry’s bright future!
