June 30, 2011 By: Seabrook Category: Contests

Whether you’re here for the day or for the week, one of the most common questions asked at Seabrook is: “What should we do while we’re here?”

Seabrook’s best activities are always changing, but we recently sat down and put together the following list of our summertime favorites to share with you. We hope your favorite Seabrook summertime activity is on the list, but if it’s not, we want to know what it is!

Just post a comment below and tell us what we missed and what you enjoy doing at Seabrook the most!

Each suggestion will be entered to win a $50 Gift Card to Seabrook’s Mill 109 Restaurant and Pub!

Winners will be announced here on the Seabrook Blog, on Thursday, July 21.

1. Take a group photo on “The Big Stump”

Seabrook Stump GroupThis stump has become famous among Seabrook residents and guests as a landmark here in town. The notch scars in its trunk giving it the designation as a “Springboard Stump” were created by loggers who carved out a place to rest the springboards in order to cut the tree. We believe the tree was cut in the late 1800’s when logging was prevalent here on the Washington Coast.

2. Discover Gelato at Lil’s Pantry

Seabrook Stump GroupGelato finds its roots in the frozen desserts served in ancient Rome and Egypt. It was originally made from ice and snow brought down from mountaintops and preserved below ground. In the 1500’s, gelato as we know it appeared during banquets at the Medici court in Florence, Italy. Today, this famed Italian treat has made its way to the Washington Coast where you can try one of Lil’s Pantry’s three rotating flavors any day of the week!

3. Enjoy S’mores in Crescent Park

Seabrook Smores Crescent ParkAfter a day of surf and sand, who can resist a hot gooey s’more at twilight around one of Crescent Park’s coveted fire pits? Not us! There are also many firepits across the different neighborhoods at Seabrook where s’mores are a popular activity. We found this new take on the traditional childhood classic in Seattle Magazine last summer and fell in love! Hopefully you’ll enjoy it as much as we did!

4. Fly A Kite On The Beach

Fly A Kite Seabrook BeachDid you know that there are tons of different kites to enjoy? With miles of sandy beach, Seabrook is the perfect place to fly your favorite type of kite!

5th Annual Doggie Days Review & Pictures!

June 23, 2011 By: Seabrook Category: Contests, Events, Pictures, Salty Dog

Doggie Days 2011This month, Seabrook celebrated its 5th Annual Doggie Days event! The long-anticipated day of canine merriment proved to once again be one of the most enjoyable events held at Seabrook! Hosted for the second year in a row by Ann Kjelsberg, owner of The Salty Dog here at Seabrook, Doggie Days showed off just how dog-friendly our beach town can be!

With every size, shape, and breed of dog you can imagine, the “Bark in the Park” festivities of Doggie Days were especially fun this year. With numerous games, contests, and prizes given to dogs with unique talents such as “Best Kisser”, “Best Trick”, and “Best Barker”, everyone had an opportunity to participate. Also, special thanks to Seabrook homeowner and professional photographer Morgan of Morgan J. Miller Photography who provided a whimsical beach back-drop for both doggie and people portraits during the event.

The weather was perfect and ALL of the proceeds from the event benefited the North Beach PAWS animal shelter in Ocean Shores.

If you didn’t have a chance to join us last weekend, we hope you will enjoy the slideshow below of the festivities. A big thanks to everyone who came out, it was great meeting so many adorable pups on the park!

For those of you planning a trip to Seabrook in the coming months, check out our events calendar for upcoming fun happenings on the Washington Coast.

Enjoy the pictures!

Seabrook Celebrates Seaside, Florida

June 02, 2011 By: Seabrook Category: New Urbanism

Seaside Florida Robb ReportWhile Florida may seem very far away to many of us here on the Washington coast, a beach town called Seaside in Florida was one of the primary inspirations for Seabrook, WA!

Casey Roloff, Town Founder of Seabrook, explains,I fell in love with Seaside and I am excited to build a town here in Washington with many of the same elements that sets Seaside apart from other development.” Although the architecture may differ between the two towns, both Seaside and Seabrook share quite a few similarities:

  • Seaside’s town plan was created using 80 acres and Seabrook’s plan was made using 88 acres.
  • Both beach towns are located on previously overlooked stretches of coastline.
  • Seabrook and Seaside were designed to ensure a resident’s primary needs are located within a 5-minute walk of the town center.
  • The retail center of each town was designed to be the heart of the community.
  • A variety of pedestrian and bicycle friendly routes were created to encourage walking and bicycling as the primary modes of transportation.
  • Charming regional towns like Seaside, OR, Cannon Beach, OR, and Carmel, CA,  influenced home design codes and architectural guidelines in each town.
  • Small cottages, large family beach houses, and homes of every size and shape exist to provide something for everyone.
  • Seaside and Seabrook have held property values better than any other town on their respective coastlines.
  • Both Seaside’s and Seabrook’s Town Founders live in the towns they worked to create.

Like Seabrook, “It was never about selling real estate,” says Robert Davis, Seaside’s Town Founder. “It was more about selling an idea of how people can best live side-by-side in a community.”

Seaside grabbed the imagination, not to mention the emotional heart strings of homebuyers who wanted to be a part of the Davis’ vision of Serendipity on the Gulf.” – Robb Report, “Seaside’s 30th Anniversary Special.”
